Migrating Two Clients from P2xRM to CRMPlus365 and Admitting I Made a Mistake

If you realized that one of your clients was using the wrong software, one that you recommended and set up for them, what would you do? We are all human, and sometimes we make mistakes. How you respond to those mistakes determines the outcome of the situation. Your gut instincts are probably right most of the time, but occasionally you might make a wrong call. When that happens, it’s time to be a grown up, admit you were wrong, and correct the mistake.

The Problem

Let me explain by telling you a little story. Two of my clients were using P2xRM on my recommendation, because it fit the budget for their sales team. One had a sales team of 10 people, and the lower cost of $29 per user was a better option for them than $95 per user for Microsoft Dynamics 365.

Another client chose P2xRM because, although Microsoft Dynamics 365 had great features, they didn’t need most of them, and customizing it for them would have taken it out of their budget range, so they went with P2xRM instead. Both clients had what they needed and were happy. Problem solved, right? This was last year.

Introducing the Gamechanger

P2 Automation introduced CRMPlus365, a more affordable alternative to Microsoft Dynamics 365, that was customizable and had all the features we loved. I realized that CRMPlus365 offered more benefits than P2xRM for those two clients I worked with last year, and would fit within their budget as well.

The first client was a Microsoft-focused company, and their sales team uses Outlook for email exclusively. CRMPlus365 integrates with Outlook because it is built on the Microsoft Platform. Sales reps can track their appointments, manage tasks, and communicate with customers with the same level of efficiency as before.

The needs of the second client were a little different. They had been using multiple Excel spreadsheets for collecting data and creating reports, and P2xRM allowed them to view data in real-time and create reports the way they wanted. I realized that CRMPlus365 would have offered the same benefits for data viewing and more features and productivity tools that they would eventually need as the company continued to grow.

What to Do Now?

Now I had a choice to make. Should I tell them they were using the wrong software? Admit that it was the right decision at the time, but now that there is something better, it would be wrong not to offer it to them because it would help them so much more? I casually mentioned to them that, “Hey, I have something really cool to show you.” When they didn’t bite right away, I decided to just go all in and lay everything out on the table.

One day I just said to them, “You guys are on the wrong platform, and I am partly to blame for it.” It was your decision, and I recommended P2xRM because it fit your needs at the time. But now we have something better that fits within your budget and allows more benefits for growing your company. We need to make a change, because CRMPlus365 is the product you should be using instead. I promised I would do whatever it takes to get them set up on the right platform.

Now both clients have transitioned to CRMPlus365 and are very happy with the outcome. Is P2xRM a bad product? No, absolutely not. P2xRM is a business management system that works for sales, event scheduling, financial planning and more. It is the best choice for many of our clients because it has so many good uses.

These two clients could have gone on using P2xRM and probably been fine. I just felt that I was doing them a disservice by not letting them know that now we had something that was a better fit for them, and we needed to make that correction, so they could continue to be successful in their business with the right tools.

We still recommend P2xRM for many of our clients if it fits their needs. But, when the focus is more geared toward sales, we recommend Microsoft Dynamics 365 and CRMPlus365 as the budget-friendly alternative.
